1. INTRODUCTION
The Santo da Serra Golf Academy can be considered one of the best golf academies in Portugal. Great deeds have been achieved by our golfers, who have played in various international challenges such as World and European Cups, as well as prestigious tournaments, such as the Madeira Island Open (of the European Professional Tour) which has been held in Santo da Serra since 1993.
In the Santo da Serra Golf Academy training programmes are specifically worked up, according to the objectives of each individual player.
2. FACILITIES
Santo da Serra has the best and latest golf equipment available on the market, to help you start out, or to improve your swing or hit the ball with greater accuracy.- To teach the game’s basic principles we have SNAG GOLF equipment, developed by two PGA Tour players (Wally Armstrong and Terry Hanton) and which have been used very successfully with younger golfers, in various countries;
- After learning some of the basics, such as grip and posture, you can improve your swing with the EXPLANAR GOLF TRAINING SYSTEM, a revolutionary equipment designed by the academic Luther Blacklock, which allows golfers to learn theory through practice itself;
- To allow you to be totally aware of your swing, and even compare it to today’s top golfers, we have the VI GOLF SWING ANALYSIS SOFTWARE, which allows you to see, analyse and very precisely diagnose your main movement flaws.
Driving Range
Located slightly below the Clubhouse, you will find our 270 metre long Driving Range, with three long tees and seven target areas (greens) at various distances, so that you can practise any kind of irons and woods. There is also a covered area, with six full-length mirrors, which allow you to check and address any swing difficulties.
It is impossible to be indifferent to the view from the greens at Santo da Serra. On clear days it seems to stretch out forever, making it possible to see even Porto Santo, the famous golden island Northeast of Madeira.
Putting-Green
There are two putting greens with different features (one flat and one undulating) opposite the clubhouse and next to tees numbers 1 and 10. You can putt here unhindered for as long as you like, before and/or after your round.
Chipping-Green
Located right next to both putting greens, there is a short game area with three flag positions on a green, where you can practise the part of the game which – according to the experts – makes all the difference.
Bunker-Green
Since the bunker is one of the obstacles most feared by golfers, and responsible for increasing their scores, there is no better place to improve your sand saves than this area with two flags reserved for this purpose, and located right next to the driving range.
3. PROFISSIONAL TEAM
Made up by professionals qualified in the fields of Physical Education and Golf, this team aims to promote the game according to principles suitable for training youngsters:
